AV, UAC and other nuisances

For the past few days one of my Vista machines has been nagging me about my anti-virus, claiming it was not turned on. That’s not what the AV tool said, and no amount of restarts would halt the nagging. Eventually I found that disabling the Vista UAC solved the problem. I was tempted to leave the UAC off, but thought better of it. I still have a lot of legacy software on the system and UAC does registry and file system virtualization, a mechanism that permits legacy software to interact with alternative registry and file system areas as if they were the original (security sensitive) areas.
