Oh to upgrade…

I don’t understand the reasoning behind it, but in my neck of the woods O2 (a Telefonica company) have changed their policy regarding mobile phone upgrades. Now you need to spend the guts of €2k per annum to qualify for an upgrade to your phone. If they wanted to deter people from trying the latest in mobile data, or drive their customers to the competition, they really couldn’t have come up with a better scheme.

Maybe they want to get away from subsidised devices. If so, they could have done it gradually. What odds they’ll do a U-turn in a few months?
